The enormous ice sheet that once covered northern Europe shaped the landscape and the conditions for the life to come: plants, animals and humans. The traces of the ice are visible everywhere. On Greenland the ice cap is still there. The three kilometer mighty glacier is a frozen archive where we can follow climate changes over the past 120,000 years and detect decisive events in human history.
Ice memory is an international art and music project about the memory of the glacier. Together with the string orchestra Camerata Nordica, composer Hans Gurstad-Nilsson, artist Eline Kersten (Netherlands) and glaciologist Lindsey Nicholson (Austria) investigate how environmental historical data from ice cores drilled from the Greenland ice sheet can translate into music.
